LikeFishing Pro Review: A $59 Pen-Sized Telescopic Rod and Reel, With Line and Hooks Sold Separately

Our verdict

A fun travel toy, but not a ready-to-fish kit at this price. LikeFishing Pro is a red aluminium pen-shaped rod that extends from 20 cm to 1 m, with a mini spinning reel, and the page gives real specs: 198 g and a 5.1:1 gear ratio. For casual fishing on holiday or a child's first catch, it is a charming idea. But the bullets mention 100 m of line while the checkout sells line for $4 and hooks for $9, and pen rods like this are widely sold for much less. LikeFishing Pro scores 3.5 out of 10, held back by price and the split kit.

The short version

• What it is: a telescopic pen-sized fishing rod with a mini spinning reel.
• Price: $59 for one on 6 October 2026, with a five-pack for $149 flagged as the best seller.
• Best trait: fits in a pocket or glovebox for spontaneous fishing.
• Biggest drawback: line and hooks cost extra, and similar rods cost much less.
• Our score: 3.5 out of 10.

Pros & cons

The pros come from the clever size and the specs given. The cons come from what is missing from the box and the price.

How it works

The rod body is an aluminium tube the size of a large pen. Inside, epoxy sections telescope out to 1 m, each with a line guide. A small spinning reel attaches to the body. You spool line, thread it through the guides, tie on a hook and weight, extend the rod and cast. The 5.1:1 gear ratio means the spool turns about five times per turn of the handle.

1. 01

   Assemble the reel

Step 1: Attach the small spinning reel to the rod's seat and spool the line, if your kit includes it.

2. 02

   Extend and rig

Step 2: Pull the rod out to 1 m, thread the line through the guides and tie on a hook and weight.

3. 03

   Cast short and reel gently

Step 3: Flick the line out a short distance and reel slowly; small fish are its natural target.

The page title calls it a "Mini Expandable Fishing Rod", "Pen Style Fishing Rod", "Sea and River Mini Fishing Rod" and "Super Compact Fishing Rod". The six bullets promise easy carrying, a spinning reel "and 100m line", an epoxy shaft with an aluminium shell, river and ice fishing, 20 cm to 100 cm sizing, and 198 g with a 5.1:1 gear ratio.

• Bargain hunters, since pen rods cost much less elsewhere

What can LikeFishing Pro really catch, and is it ready to fish?

Small fish at short range, once you buy line and hooks. A 1 m rod and a small reel suit panfish, small trout and similar from piers, docks and banks. The page lists line rated at 7.2 kg (15.8 lb), but the rod and reel are the weak points with larger fish. The bullets mention 100 m of line, yet the checkout sells that line separately, along with hooks and a weight.

"Enjoy Smooth And Effortless Fishing With The Spinning Reel And 100m Line"

What to do: ask whether line is in the base box. If not, add the $4 line or use your own.

"Perfect For River And Ice Fishing"

Short rods suit ice holes. Rivers with strong currents and bigger fish will test it.

Licences

Take Me Fishing's guide on when you need a fishing licence says you will most likely need one in any US state, and that rules vary by state, age and water.

What this means for you: buy the licence before the trip, even for catch and release.

How much does LikeFishing Pro cost, and which add-ons do you need?

Who sells it

The order page names G Com Pte Ltd at 137 Market Street in Singapore, with the email support@g63com.com and a phone number. The footer gives the country as Hong Kong. The page code says charges appear on your card statement as panameedia.

Is LikeFishing Pro better than a regular telescopic rod or a cheaper pen rod?

For portability, yes; for fishing and value, no. Regular telescopic rods collapse to under half a metre, cast further and handle bigger fish, often with line included. Pen rods of this exact style are widely sold by general retailers for a fraction of $59.

Choose LikeFishing Pro if

You want this checkout's guarantee and the tiniest possible rod.

Choose a telescopic rod combo if

You want to catch more than small fish. That is where a rival wins.

How did we score LikeFishing Pro?

LikeFishing Pro scores 3.5 out of 10: claim accuracy 0.7, build durability 0.8, price competitiveness 0.4, usability 1.2 and owner satisfaction 0.4, each out of 2. It is a compact, specified rod that works for small fish. The score falls on line and hooks sold separately despite the bullets, a large markup over similar pen rods and limited fishing range.

How the score breaks down

We use the five criteria on our how we test page, each out of 2.

What owners say

We found no Trustpilot profile for the gadgetxaura.com store and no retailer reviews for LikeFishing Pro by that name. Owners of pen fishing rods like the novelty and portability, and complain about tangles on the tiny reel, short casts and tips that snap under bigger fish.

What we did, and did not, do

Nobody on our team has used LikeFishing Pro. We read the offer page our link opens and its page code on 6 October 2026, along with Take Me Fishing's licence guide and the pages that rank for LikeFishing Pro. The refund and returns terms are as we recorded them from the site's terms page on 4 October 2026.

How to use LikeFishing Pro for better catches

Spool the reel carefully, fish close to structure like piers and weed edges, and play fish gently. Short rods work best with light weights and short, accurate casts. Rinse it after salt water, dry the sections before collapsing, and keep your licence with you.

1. Buy a licence. Check your state's rules.
2. Spool evenly. Avoids tangles on the small reel.
3. Light weights. Short rods cast light rigs best.
4. Fish close. Piers, docks and weed edges.
5. Play fish gently. Let the drag work.
6. Rinse after salt water. Prevents corrosion.
7. Dry before collapsing. Protects the sections.

With children

Supervise hooks and teach safe casting space.

Ice fishing

Keep the reel warm in a pocket between drops.

What else do people ask about pen fishing rods?

Most questions are about sea fishing, bait and durability. They can fish from sea piers for small species, worms and small lures suit them, and gentle use keeps the tip intact. Browse our tools reviews for more.

Can I use it in the sea?

From piers for small fish; rinse it afterwards.

What bait should I use?

Worms, maggots or small soft lures.

Will the tip break?

It can under heavy loads; avoid high-sticking.

Is it a good gift?

As a novelty for anglers or a first rod for kids, yes.
