Aerless and Ekster sell what is, on paper, almost the same travel vacuum kit: a 12 by 19 by 4 inch nylon bag with a zip and a one-way valve, and a pocket-sized USB-C pump that sucks the air out. Aerless is cheaper. Ekster is the better-known brand, with more reviews, a clearer warranty and retailers you can buy from. So the choice comes down to the seller, not the bag. We have not used either kit; this comparison draws on both brands' product pages and policies, retailer listings, Trustpilot and one independent hands-on review, all read on 6 October 2026. Are Aerless and Ekster the same bag?

Very possibly, in all but the logo. The bag size both brands publish is identical to the inch, both describe the same anti-rip, waterproof nylon, both use a zip track with a one-way valve on the face of the bag, and retailer listings for Ekster's pump give the same 15-uses-per-charge figure that Aerless uses. Travel vacuum kits are a crowded category, and identical designs sold under several brands are common.

That does not mean they are interchangeable purchases. What differs is everything around the bag: the price, how the kit is sold, how returns work, how long the warranty runs and how the company treats you when a parcel goes missing. Those are where the real comparison lies.

One detail to be wary of: ekster.com lists its bag at "approximately 19.5 L", while Luggage Pros lists the same bag at 27 L, the figure Aerless also uses. A 12 by 19 by 4 inch bag works out at about 15 litres as a box, and the 27-litre figure describes the bag before it is pressed flat, so treat any litre figure as rough. The four-bags-for-a-carry-on rule both brands use is the more useful guide.

Price: Aerless is about $10 to $20 cheaper

On 6 October 2026, every Aerless kit cost $10 to $20 less than the matching Ekster kit: $69 against $79 for one bag and a pump, $89 against $99 for two, and $129 against $149 for four. Both sites show large "compare at" prices beside these figures ($128 to $521 for Aerless, $138 to $345 for Ekster), which we have not seen either kit actually sold at.

Aerless also sells extra bags ($39 each) and the pump alone ($39) on its own store, which helps if you lose a part. Ekster sells the bag and pump separately through retailers, and offers a $99 "Pro" kit with a side-opening zip, a central valve and a pump with a longer-lasting battery.

For most people, the four-bag kit is the one to buy from either brand: four bags is what both suggest for a 20-inch carry-on, and the price per bag falls sharply after the first one. At that size, Aerless saves you $20.

Pump: the same idea, with one known quirk

Both pumps are small, battery-powered and charge over USB-C, and both brands say they flatten a bag in seconds. Ekster's weighs 86 grams (3 ounces) and measures about 2 by 2.5 inches. Aerless does not publish a weight. Battery claims vary: Aerless says more than 15 trips a charge, Luggage Pros lists 15 uses for Ekster's pump, and ekster.com says up to 45 uses for its newer pump.

The one independent hands-on test we found, by FullCleared in November 2025, praised the Ekster pump for doing the work "in a matter of seconds" but noted that its button is easy to press by accident in a bag, with no lock or power switch. Some Aerless owners on Trustpilot found its pump weaker than they hoped and finished the job with a home vacuum cleaner. Both brands' bags work with a household vacuum hose, which gives the hardest squeeze before you leave home.

Pack either pump in your carry-on, not your checked case: it runs on a lithium battery. Our guide to vacuum bags at TSA security covers the battery rules.

Returns and warranty: Ekster is simpler to deal with

Both brands advertise a 100-day money-back guarantee. Aerless's written refund policy is stricter than its banner: items must be unused, unworn and in the original packaging, and returns carry a handling fee. Our article on whether Aerless is legit covers the fine print and the complaints about refunds in detail.

Ekster's product page promises "100-day hassle-free returns". Its warranty is described as lifetime on ekster.com and as a two-year limited warranty on Luggage Pros' listing, so check which applies to the store you buy from. Buying from a retailer gives you a second route if something goes wrong: that store's own return policy and customer service.

Aerless sells only through its own websites, aerless.com and getaerless.com, with email-only support.

Reviews: Ekster has more, and better

Aerless's Trustpilot profile showed 3.9 out of 5 from 464 reviews on 3 October 2026, sharply split between five-star praise for the bags and one-star complaints about late deliveries, damaged parcels and refunds. Ekster's product page showed 4.5 stars from 842 reviews, and the Ekster brand scores about 4.5 on Trustpilot from nearly 3,000 reviews, although most of those are about its wallets rather than the vacuum kit.

Neither profile is proof that one bag is better made. What the gap does suggest is that Ekster, a larger company with retail partners, has fewer problems with delivery and refunds, which is where most Aerless complaints come from.

Which one should you buy?

If you...Buy
Want the lowest price for the same bag designAerless, four-bag kit at $129
Want the safest return and a retailer to fall back onEkster, from ekster.com or a retailer
Need spare bags or a replacement pump laterAerless, which sells both separately at $39
Are buying close to a trip dateEkster; Aerless quotes 4 to 10 business days and some buyers report late parcels
Want a side-opening bagEkster's Pro kit at $99
Pack mostly thin summer clothesNeither; packing cubes or rolling do nearly as well

Whichever you choose, the same rules apply: vacuum bags shrink bulky clothes a lot and dense ones very little, they save space but add weight, and compressed bags pack hard and flat. Our article on whether vacuum travel bags are worth it covers who gains most.

Our verdict

If you are happy to buy direct and keep the packaging until you are sure, Aerless gets you what looks like the same bag and pump for $20 less at the four-bag size, plus cheap spare bags. If you would rather pay a little more to deal with a larger brand with stronger reviews, retail stockists and a simpler return, choose Ekster. The bags themselves are too similar for that to be the deciding factor. Order either one at least two weeks before you travel, and test one bag at home before your trip.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Aerless or Ekster?

Neither bag is clearly better: both are 12 by 19 by 4 inch nylon vacuum bags with a zip, a one-way valve and a small USB-C pump. Aerless is cheaper, at $129 for four bags and a pump against $149 for Ekster on 6 October 2026. Ekster has more and better reviews, a clearer warranty and is sold by retailers, which makes returns easier.

Are Aerless and Ekster bags the same product?

They are not sold as the same product, but the published bag size (12 by 19 by 4 inches), the nylon, the zip-and-valve design and the 15-use pump claim found on retailer pages match closely. Travel vacuum kits like these are often made in the same factories and sold under different brands, so the bag you get may differ little; the seller behind it differs a lot.

Can you use Aerless bags with the Ekster pump, or the other way round?

Probably, since both pumps sit over a round one-way valve, but neither brand says so, and a pump that does not seal on the valve will not draw the bag flat. Both brands' bags also work with the hose of a home vacuum cleaner, which is the safe fallback if you mix kits.

Is the Ekster vacuum kit worth it?

It is worth it for the same people Aerless suits: travellers whose bag fills up with bulky jumpers, fleeces and jackets long before it gets heavy. It is not worth it for a summer trip of thin clothes or if your carry-on is already near its weight limit, because compression saves space, not weight.

Does Ekster or Aerless have the better return policy?

Both advertise 100 days. Aerless's written refund policy asks for unused items in original packaging and charges a handling fee. Ekster's product page advertises 100-day hassle-free returns, and buying from a retailer such as Luggage Pros adds that store's own return policy. Read the written terms of whichever store you buy from before you open the bags.
