Buy the Sleepgram if you are not sure what pillow height suits you; buy the Derila Ergo if you sleep on your back or side and already know you like firm, shaped support. The Sleepgram is a soft fibre pillow you can set to three heights. The Derila Ergo is a single block of contoured memory foam at one height. They cost about the same, so the choice comes down to how you sleep and how sure you are. The scorecard above has the short answer; here is the reasoning behind each round.
Height and fit
Height is the setting that decides whether a pillow works, and only the Sleepgram lets you change it. It has an outer pillow and two microfibre inserts: the thin blue one alone for soft, the thicker red one for medium, both for firm. You can swap them in a minute and try a different height the same night.
The Derila has one height, about 4.7 inches according to its product page. That suits many back sleepers and average-build side sleepers. If it is too high or too low for you, there is nothing to remove or add. Stomach sleepers are the clearest poor fit: a raised edge pushes the head back when you lie face down, and the Sleepgram's soft setting is far better there.
Neck support and feel
The Derila wins on support, because its shape does the work. The head rests in a central dip, a raised edge fills the gap under the neck, and cut-outs at the sides leave room for a shoulder. The foam softens slowly under warmth, takes your shape and holds it, so your neck stays in roughly the same place all night.
The Sleepgram feels completely different: soft, squashable and closer to down. Your head sinks in and the pillow reshapes as you turn, which is comfortable but less precise. Hands-on testers gave it full marks for back and stomach sleeping and lower marks for side sleeping, mainly because fibre compresses under a heavier head by morning.
How long they keep their shape
Memory foam keeps its shape longer than polyester microfibre, and that is the Derila's clearest advantage. Mattress Clarity put the Sleepgram's useful life at about a year with regular fluffing and dryer cycles, and the most common serious complaint on its Trustpilot page is pillows that lost support after extended use.
The Derila does not need fluffing. Owners who dislike it tend to say it is too firm or too flat from the start, not that it wore out. Long-term reports are thin, though, because no major independent tester had reviewed it when we checked. Sleepgram's lifetime replacement promise softens its weakness, but it does not publish the conditions; Derila states no warranty on its product page.
Sleeping hot
Call it a tie. Neither is a cooling pillow, whatever the product pages say. The Sleepgram's cotton cover and loose fibre breathe better than solid foam, but one hands-on tester still found heat building up overnight with both inserts in. The Derila sells its cover as "cooling technology" without saying what the fabric is, and solid memory foam generally holds more warmth than fibre. If you sleep hot, breathable cotton bedding such as the Miracle Made sheets will do more than either pillow.
Price and value
For one pillow, the Derila is cheaper: about $59.99 plus shipping, against $64.99 for a single Sleepgram on sleepgram.com. For two, they tie at $99.98, or $49.99 each, on the offer pages our links open. Both stores show a crossed-out "regular" price far above what anyone pays, so ignore the discount badges and compare the real totals.
| You need | Sleepgram | Derila Ergo |
|---|---|---|
| One pillow | $64.99 | $59.99 |
| Two pillows | $99.98 | $99.98 |
Derila adds shipping at checkout and also offers add-ons there; owners on Trustpilot complain there are too many of them. Its offer showed prices in local currency converted from US dollars, so its figures are worked back from that conversion.
Returns and the fine print
This round matters more than it looks, because with a pillow you only find out by sleeping on it. Sleepgram gives 100 days and accepts a pillow in like-new, donatable condition with its tags, after you get a return number from support. Derila gives 60 days from delivery, but for a pillow that is not defective it asks for the product in manufacturer's condition with the original, undamaged packaging, and you pay the return postage.
In practice, the Sleepgram is the safer pillow to experiment with. If you buy the Derila, keep the box intact, note the delivery date and decide by about day 45.
Which one should you buy?
Most people should start with the Sleepgram. Pillow height is personal and hard to judge in advance, and the Sleepgram lets you try three heights with a longer return window behind you. Couples who want different firmness can buy a pair and set each one differently.
Choose the Derila if you already know a medium-height, firm pillow suits you, you sleep on your back or side, and you are tired of fluffing a pillow that has gone flat by 3 am. It is also the better buy for one pillow. The Sleepgram is the top pick in our best sleep products guide, and the sleep category has the rest of what we cover for the bedroom.
Our verdict
The Sleepgram is our pick for most sleepers and scores higher, 7.4 against 6.8, because adjustability and easy returns matter most when you are buying something you cannot try first. The Derila Ergo wins more rounds, three to two with a tie, on support, shape retention and single-pillow price. It is the better pillow for people who already know what they want. Frequently asked questions
Is the Sleepgram or the Derila better for side sleepers?
For average-build side sleepers, both work: the Sleepgram on its firm setting with both inserts, the Derila with the shoulder in its side cut-out. Broad-shouldered or heavier side sleepers may find both too low by morning, because fibre compresses and the Derila's height is fixed. A shredded foam pillow is the safer bet for them.
Which is better for neck pain, the Sleepgram or the Derila?
Neither treats neck pain. What helps is a pillow that keeps your neck level with your spine all night. The Derila's contour holds the neck in one place, which some owners find relieves morning stiffness. The Sleepgram lets you find the right height first. If you do not know your ideal height, start with the adjustable one.
Which lasts longer, the Sleepgram or the Derila?
The Derila, most likely. Memory foam keeps its shape for longer than polyester microfibre, which testers found flattens within about a year of nightly use without regular fluffing. Sleepgram offers a lifetime replacement promise, but it does not publish the conditions, and Derila states no warranty on its product page.
Can I return the Sleepgram or the Derila if I do not like it?
Both, with conditions. Sleepgram gives 100 days and accepts pillows in like-new, donatable condition. Derila gives 60 days from delivery, asks for the original, undamaged packaging on non-defective items and leaves return postage to you. Keep the Derila's box intact until you are sure, and use a pillowcase on either from the first night.
