Best fixed-height contour pillow under $60

Quick answer

Yes, if you sleep on your back or side and already know that a medium-height, firm pillow suits you. The Derila Ergo is a contoured block of certified memory foam that cradles the head, supports the neck and keeps its shape without fluffing.

Our verdict

Yes, if you sleep on your back or side and already know that a medium-height, firm pillow suits you. The Derila Ergo is a contoured block of certified memory foam that cradles the head, supports the neck and keeps its shape without fluffing. At about $59.99 for one pillow, or $39.99 each in a four-pack, the price is fair.

It scores 6.8 out of 10, held back by two things: the height cannot be changed, and the return terms ask for undamaged original packaging and leave the postage to you. That makes it a pillow to buy when you are fairly sure, not one to experiment with.

The short version

  • A one-piece butterfly-shaped memory foam pillow with a centre dip for the head and raised edges for the neck.
  • About $59.99 for one pillow and $39.99 each in a four-pack on the offer page our link opens, against a "regular" price of $133.30.
  • Best trait: firm, shaped support that does not flatten by morning.
  • Biggest drawback: fixed height, plus strict returns that need the original packaging.
  • Our score: 6.8 out of 10, with the lowest mark for how easy it is to return.

Pros & cons

The Derila does the opposite of an adjustable pillow. Instead of letting you set the height, it fixes a shape that suits most back and side sleepers and holds it all night. If that shape fits you, it is a comfortable, low-maintenance pillow. If it does not, there is nothing to adjust.

What we like

  • Contoured memory foam cradles the head and fills the gap under the neck
  • Foam keeps its shape without daily fluffing, unlike fibre-filled pillows
  • Foam is CertiPUR-US certified, according to Derila's product page
  • Removable, zipped cover goes in the washing machine
  • Sold singly at about $59.99, or from about $39.99 each in a four-pack

What we don't

  • Fixed height of about 4.7 inches; there is no insert or fill to remove if it is too high
  • Returns need the original, undamaged packaging, and you pay return postage
  • The foam core can only be spot cleaned, and shipping costs are never refunded
  • Checkout pushes extra covers and add-ons, the most common Trustpilot complaint
  • Some owners find it too firm or too flat, and the shape takes getting used to

How it works

There are no inserts and no loose fill. The shape does the work.

  1. A shaped foam block

Step 1: The pillow is one piece of high-density polyurethane memory foam cut into a butterfly outline, with a dip in the centre for the head and raised edges that support the neck.

  2. Foam softens with warmth

Step 2: Memory foam softens slowly under body heat and pressure, so the pillow takes the shape of your head and neck over a few minutes and springs back when you get up.

  3. The wings take the shoulder

Step 3: The cut-outs at the sides leave room for a shoulder or an arm when you lie on your side, which is how the shape tries to keep the neck level without extra height.

Who it's for

The Derila suits back and side sleepers who want firm, shaped support and are tired of a pillow that collapses during the night. It also suits anyone who wants one pillow rather than a two-pack, because Derila sells single pillows as well as packs. If you have tried a contour pillow before and liked it, this is a fairly priced version.

  • Back and side sleepers who already know a medium-height pillow suits them
  • People who wake up with a sore neck from a pillow that flattens overnight
  • Anyone who wants a pillow that holds its shape without fluffing
  • Buyers who need one pillow, not a pair

Who should skip it

  • Stomach sleepers, who usually need a lower, softer pillow than this
  • Anyone unsure what height suits them, because the height cannot be changed
  • People who want a pillow they can return easily after trying it

How much does the Derila Ergo cost, and what is it made of?

The Derila Ergo cost $59.99 for one pillow on the offer page on 3 October 2026, with two for $99.98, three for $137.97 and four for $159.96, about $39.99 each. It is a one-piece contour pillow made of high-density, CertiPUR-US certified memory foam, according to Derila, about 4.7 inches high, in a removable zipped cover. There are no inserts, so the height cannot be adjusted.

The Derila Ergo is a single shaped pillow in a removable cover. The photos below are Derila's own.

The offer page our link opens sells the pillow in packs. Its checkout showed prices in our local currency, converted from US dollar prices, so the figures below are the US prices worked back from its own conversion:

PackEachTotalDiscount shown
1 pillow$59.99$59.9955%
2 pillows$49.99$99.9863%
3 pillows$45.99$137.9766%
4 pillows$39.99$159.9670%

Shipping is added at checkout and is not refunded if you send the pillow back. The discounts are measured against a "regular" price of $133.30 per pillow, a figure we have not seen anyone charge, so judge the pack on its total rather than its percentage. At about 21 by 14 inches, the pillow is smaller than a standard 20 by 26 inch pillow, so a standard pillowcase fits loosely; Derila sells its own cases and covers as extras.

One more practical point: an independent advertorial on the brand found Derila pillows on several websites at very different prices. Order through one site and keep the confirmation, because the return policy only covers pillows bought on the site you used.

How to buy the Derila the smart way

  1. Open the Derila Ergo order page (opens Derila in a new tab) and pick the pack: one pillow to try it, the two-pack only if a partner wants the same shape.
  2. Untick any extra covers or add-ons you did not choose, and check the shipping line before paying.
  3. Keep the outer box and the vacuum bag undamaged; returns need the original packaging.
  4. Note the delivery date. The 60 days run from then, and the 6 to 8 hour expansion counts as day one.
  5. Use a pillowcase from the first night so the cover stays clean and returnable.

Which sleeping positions does the Derila pillow suit?

The Derila suits back and side sleepers. Back sleepers rest the head in the centre dip with the raised front edge under the neck, the position the shape is designed around. Side sleepers rest the head on one side of the dip with the shoulder in the side cut-out, which keeps the neck roughly level for an average build. Broad-shouldered sleepers may find the fixed 4.7-inch height too low.

The Derila is built for back and side sleeping. How well it fits depends on the width of your shoulders, because the height is fixed.

Back sleepers rest the head in the centre dip, with the raised front edge under the neck. This is the position the shape is designed around, and most owners who praise the pillow sleep this way.

Side sleepers turn so the head rests on one side of the dip and the shoulder drops into the cut-out at the side. For an average build that keeps the neck roughly level. Broad-shouldered sleepers may find the 4.7-inch height too low, and some owners on Trustpilot describe the pillow as too flat.

Stomach sleepers are the poor fit. Derila says the pillow works in every position, but a firm, raised edge pushes the head back when you lie face down. A thin, soft pillow suits this position better.

Combination sleepers can do well if they move between back and side, because the shape has an area for each. Expect a few nights to learn where to put your head; owners mention a learning curve, and some found the instructions unclear.

Our sleep category covers sheets and pillowcases too, but the pillow is the piece that sets your neck angle.

Is the Derila better than an adjustable pillow?

It depends on how sure you are about height. The Derila is a fixed-height memory foam pillow: firm, shaped and slow to respond, and it keeps its form. An adjustable pillow such as the Sleepgram lets you set soft, medium or firm by swapping fibre inserts, so it fits more people, though fibre flattens over time. If you know a medium, firm pillow suits you, the Derila is the simpler choice.

The obvious alternative at this price is an adjustable pillow such as the Sleepgram, which lets you set soft, medium or firm by swapping two fibre inserts. The trade-off is clear. The Sleepgram fits more people because you can change it, but its fibre flattens and needs fluffing. The Derila holds its shape, but it is one height for everyone.

We compare the two round by round in Sleepgram vs Derila Ergo. A near-identical butterfly contour pillow is covered in our VelaSleep review. Either way, breathable bedding helps: a cotton set like the Miracle Made sheets breathes better than a silk case such as Blissy, which feels cool at first. If snoring keeps you up rather than neck pain, our SleepZee review looks at a different fix.

Is the Derila legit, and what should you check before buying?

Derila is a real brand with a Trustpilot score of 4.1 from 45,944 reviews, but its returns are strict: within 60 days, non-defective pillows must come back in original, undamaged packaging, with a return authorisation form first and return postage at your cost. Before buying, keep the packaging intact for the first weeks, and read the order summary carefully, because checkout add-ons are the most common complaint.

None of these rule the Derila out. Each changes how you should buy it.

Returns are strict. The policy gives 60 days from receiving the pillow. For anything that is not defective, it asks for the product in manufacturer's condition with the original, undamaged packaging. You pay return postage, you need a return authorisation form first, and only orders from Derila's own site qualify. Memory foam pillows are hard to fit back into their packaging, so keep the box intact.

The checkout sells hard. Trustpilot reviewers most often complain about the number of add-ons and upsells offered during checkout. Read the order summary before paying.

The cooling claim is vague. The cover is sold as "cooling technology", but Derila does not say what the fabric is. Solid memory foam generally holds more heat than fibre or shredded foam.

Some claims go beyond the evidence. "Reduces morning stiffness" and "promotes deeper sleep" are not backed by published testing of this pillow. A contour shape can improve your neck angle; it is not a treatment.

What do owners say about the Derila pillow?

Owners are mostly positive. Derila's Trustpilot profile showed 4.1 out of 5 from 45,944 reviews on 3 October 2026, with 48 percent five-star and 13 percent one-star. The profile covers the whole brand, not just the Ergo. Praise centres on neck and shoulder support, especially from side sleepers, and on quick delivery. Complaints centre on checkout add-ons, pillows that feel too firm or too flat, loose pillowcases, and unclear positioning instructions. Derila had replied to every negative review, usually within a day.

You can read the reviews on the Trustpilot profile for derila.com.

What is missing is hands-on testing. When we checked, none of the major independent pillow testers had published a Derila review, and most pages ranking for the name are affiliate pages with no testing. That is why this review relies on Derila's own specifications and on owner reports.

How we researched this review

Nobody on our team has slept on a Derila yet, and this review does not claim otherwise. Every score on the site follows the five criteria on our how we test page. For this review we read the Derila Ergo offer site our link opens (its order page, return policy, shipping policy and user guide), Derila's store product page, its Trustpilot profile and the top-ranking Derila reviews, most of them disclosed advertorials, all on 3 October 2026.

How to use the Derila pillow for the best results

Unpack the pillow and let it air for a day if you notice a smell, keeping the packaging intact in case you return it. Rest your head in the centre dip with the raised edge under your neck, not your head. For side sleeping, drop your lower shoulder into the side cut-out rather than tucking it under the pillow. Give yourself about two weeks to adjust to the shape.

  1. Unpack it and let it air for a day if you notice a smell, but keep the packaging intact.
  2. Put the head in the centre dip, with the raised edge under your neck, not under your head.
  3. For side sleeping, drop the lower shoulder into the side cut-out rather than resting it under the pillow.
  4. Give it at least a week; owners report the shape takes getting used to.
  5. Use a pillowcase from night one, and wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle.
  6. Spot clean the foam only, and let it dry completely before refitting the cover.
  7. Decide by about day 45, so a return lands well inside the 60-day window.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Derila Ergo pillow worth it?

It is worth it if you sleep on your back or side, like firm, shaped support and already know a medium-height pillow suits you. At about $59.99 for one, or less per pillow in a pack, it is fairly priced for a certified memory foam contour pillow. It is less worth it if you are unsure of your ideal height, because the height is fixed and the return terms are strict.

Is the Derila pillow good for side sleepers?

For average-build side sleepers, usually yes. The cut-outs at the sides leave room for the shoulder and the raised edge fills the space under the neck. Broad-shouldered or heavier side sleepers may find the roughly 4.7-inch height too low, and there is no way to add height to the foam.

Can you wash the Derila pillow?

You can wash the zipped cover in the machine. Derila's two sites disagree on temperature, warm in the user guide and cold on a gentle cycle on its store page, so cold is the safer choice. The memory foam core must not go in the washing machine; spot clean it with a mild detergent and let it air dry fully.

What is the Derila return policy?

You have 60 days from receiving the pillow to request a return, refund or exchange. For a non-defective item, Derila's policy asks for the product in manufacturer's condition with the original, undamaged packaging. You pay the return postage, you need a return authorisation form, and the policy only covers orders placed on Derila's own site.

Does the Derila pillow sleep hot?

It can. Derila sells the cover as cooling technology, but it does not say what the fabric is made of, and solid memory foam traps more heat than fibre or shredded foam. Owners split on this. If you sleep hot, pair it with breathable cotton bedding and keep the return window in mind.

What size is the Derila Ergo pillow?

Derila's user guide gives 54 by 36 by 12 cm, which is 21.2 by 14.1 by 4.7 inches, and its store lists a weight of 36.9 ounces. That is smaller than a standard 20 by 26 inch pillow, so a standard pillowcase will be loose. The pillow arrives vacuum-packed and needs 6 to 8 hours to reach full size.
