Filtered shower head

Quick answer

Yes, if you are on chlorinated city water, notice a chlorine smell or dry skin and hair after showering, and want an easy, good-looking filtered shower head you will keep fresh filters in. NUUD uses standard chlorine-reducing media, installs by hand and costs less on the offer page than in NUUD's own store.

Our verdict

Yes, if you are on chlorinated city water, notice a chlorine smell or dry skin and hair after showering, and want an easy, good-looking filtered shower head you will keep fresh filters in. NUUD uses standard chlorine-reducing media, installs by hand and costs less on the offer page than in NUUD's own store. But "99% of contaminants", "clears acne" and its hair study are not independently backed, it does not soften hard water, and filters add at least $132 a year. NUUD scores 6.7 out of 10, held back by claims and running costs.

The short version

  • A filtered shower head with a three-stage cartridge: KDF-55, calcium sulfite and coconut carbon.
  • Three spray modes plus stream; chrome, black or brushed nickel.
  • $89.99 on 4 October 2026; two for $149.99, three for $199.98, free shipping.
  • NUUD's own store listed it at $129 one-time, or $99 with a filter subscription.
  • Filters last 2 to 3 months; replacements cost $33 each in NUUD's store.
  • Installs by hand in a few minutes on standard North American shower arms.
  • Does not soften hard water, according to NUUD's own FAQ.
  • "99% removal" and the hair study are company claims with no published testing.
  • Trustpilot: 4.6 from about 30 reviews.
  • Lifetime manufacturer warranty, according to the page.
  • Best trait: easy, attractive upgrade that should reduce chlorine.
  • Biggest drawback: overstated beauty claims and ongoing filter costs.
  • Our score: 6.7 out of 10.

Pros & cons

NUUD is a reasonable filtered shower head sold with beauty claims that run well ahead of the evidence. The decision mostly comes down to your water and whether you will keep buying filters.

What we like

  • Three-stage cartridge (KDF-55, calcium sulfite, coconut carbon) uses media commonly used to reduce chlorine
  • Installs by hand in a few minutes on standard North American shower arms
  • Three spray modes plus a stream mode, in chrome, black or brushed nickel
  • $89.99 on the offer page, less than the $129 one-time price in NUUD's own store
  • Lifetime manufacturer warranty, according to the page; Trustpilot 4.6 from a small number of reviews

What we don't

  • "Filters 99% of chlorine, heavy metals and chemicals" has no published test or NSF/ANSI 177 certification we could find
  • "Clears acne" and "89% thicker hair" rest on the company's own consumer survey
  • Does not soften hard water, and carbon and KDF are less effective against chloramine
  • Replacement filters every 2 to 3 months cost $33 each in NUUD's store, about $132 to $198 a year
  • Only about 30 Trustpilot reviews, so owner feedback is thin

How it works

NUUD replaces your existing shower head. Inside its body sits a cartridge that water passes through before it reaches the spray face. According to NUUD, the cartridge contains three media, each doing a slightly different job.

  1. Swap your shower head

Step 1: Unscrew your old shower head by hand, wrap the included thread tape around the shower arm and screw NUUD on. The page says it takes 2 to 3 minutes.

  2. Water passes through the cartridge

Step 2: As water flows through the head, it passes through KDF-55 (a copper-zinc medium), calcium sulfite and coconut carbon, which are used to reduce chlorine and some metals.

  3. Replace the filter regularly

Step 3: Every 2 to 3 months, or when you notice a chlorine smell or lower flow, unscrew the old cartridge and fit a new one.

KDF-55

KDF-55 is a granular copper-zinc alloy. As water flows over it, a chemical reaction converts free chlorine into chloride, a harmless salt, and can reduce some dissolved metals such as lead and mercury. KDF works at the high flow rates and warm temperatures found in showers better than carbon alone, which is why it is common in shower filters. It also discourages bacterial growth in the cartridge.

Calcium sulfite

Calcium sulfite reacts quickly with chlorine, including in hot water, neutralising it. It is widely used in shower filters and vitamin-C-style filters for this reason.

Coconut carbon

Activated carbon made from coconut shells adsorbs chlorine, some organic chemicals and odours. In a shower, water passes through very quickly, so carbon has less contact time than in a drinking water filter, especially when the water is hot.

Chlorine versus chloramine

Many US cities disinfect water with chlorine. Others use chloramine, a more stable combination of chlorine and ammonia. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, more than one in five Americans uses water treated with chloramines. Chloramine is harder for KDF and carbon to remove in the short contact time of a shower; calcium sulfite and vitamin C handle it better. NUUD's page does not mention chloramine at all, so if your city uses it, expect less benefit.

Hot water and contact time

Filters work best when water spends time in contact with the media. In a shower, water rushes through at around two gallons a minute, and hot water speeds up some reactions while making carbon adsorption less effective. KDF and calcium sulfite cope with these conditions better than carbon alone, which is why they are included. Even so, no shower filter matches the performance of a slow, cold drinking water filter.

What it does not remove

NUUD's own FAQ says it does not soften hard water: it does not remove calcium and magnesium. It is also not designed to remove fluoride, nitrates or microorganisms. It is a shower filter, not a whole-house treatment system or a drinking water filter.

Why the order of the media matters

In multi-stage shower filters, the media are usually layered so that fast-acting KDF and calcium sulfite tackle chlorine first, and carbon then catches what remains along with some odours. NUUD does not publish the quantity of each medium or the order in its cartridge. The amount matters: a small cartridge with a thin layer of each medium will exhaust sooner than one packed more generously.

What the cartridge discolouration means

The FAQ suggests checking your used filter after 2 to 3 months, saying the discolouration shows the contaminants it captured. Discolouration mostly shows sediment, rust and oxidised KDF, which is normal. It shows the filter has been working on something, but it is not a measure of how much chlorine was removed.

Bacteria in filters

Any filter that stays damp between showers can grow bacteria if left too long. KDF is used partly because it discourages bacterial growth. This is one more reason to replace cartridges on schedule rather than stretching them.

Who it's for

NUUD suits people on chlorinated municipal water who notice a strong chlorine smell in the shower, feel their skin is tight or itchy afterwards, or think chlorine is drying their hair or fading their colour. It also suits renters, because you can swap it in and out without tools.

Common reasons people buy it

From the testimonials and marketing, buyers usually fall into a few groups: people who moved to a city with strongly chlorinated water, people with dry or itchy skin after showering, people who colour their hair and want it to last, and people who saw filtered shower heads on social media and want to try one. The first three groups are the most likely to notice a difference.

It is less useful for people on private wells (which usually have no chlorine), people whose problem is hard water scale, and anyone expecting a shower head to treat acne, eczema or hair loss.

Why NUUD appeals

Filtered shower heads have become popular on social media, and the idea is easy to grasp: your hair and skin spend time in tap water every day, so cleaner water should help. NUUD makes that idea easy to act on. It looks good, comes in three finishes, installs in minutes and offers three spray modes, so even if the filter made no difference, you would still have a decent new shower head.

The offer page price is also competitive. At $89.99 with free shipping, it is $39 less than NUUD's own store charges for a one-time purchase.

A typical first week

You unscrew your old shower head, wrap the thread tape and screw NUUD on in a few minutes. The first shower smells less of chlorine, and the spray feels different simply because it is a new head. Over the next week, you may notice your skin feels less tight after showering or your hair less straw-like, especially if your old water had a strong chlorine smell. Or you may notice very little, if your water was low in chlorine to begin with.

A typical few months

By the second month, the novelty of the new head has worn off, and what matters is whether showers still feel and smell better than before. Towards the end of the cartridge's life, owners may notice the chlorine smell creeping back or the spray weakening slightly. That is the moment to fit a new filter; leaving it longer brings you back to unfiltered water with extra resistance.

Who gets the most value

People in cities with strongly chlorinated water and a noticeable shower smell are most likely to feel a difference. People who colour their hair and want to protect the colour, and people with sensitive skin who find chlorine irritating, are also good candidates.

Check your water first

Your water utility publishes an annual water quality report, sometimes called a Consumer Confidence Report. It tells you whether your water is disinfected with chlorine or chloramine and how hard it is. Five minutes reading it will tell you whether NUUD is likely to help.

Swimmers

Regular swimmers are exposed to much more chlorine in pools than from showers. A filtered shower will not undo pool exposure, but rinsing in less chlorinated water after swimming and using a swimmer's shampoo may help hair feel better.

Families

If several people share a shower, the filter will be used up faster. A household of four taking daily showers will reach the 10,000-gallon limit sooner than a single person, so plan for replacements every two months rather than three.

  • People on chlorinated city water who notice a chlorine smell or dry skin and hair after showering
  • Anyone who wants an easy, renter-friendly upgrade to a nicer-looking shower head with a filter
  • People willing to replace filters every few months to keep it working

Who should skip it

  • Anyone whose main problem is hard water scale: NUUD does not soften water
  • Homes on chloraminated water expecting full removal: check your water report first
  • Households on private wells without chlorine, where a shower filter has little to remove
  • Anyone with acne, eczema or hair loss looking for a treatment: see a dermatologist

How much does NUUD cost, including filters?

NUUD cost $89.99 on the offer page on 4 October 2026, against $129 one-time in NUUD's own store. The box holds one filtered shower head with a filter pre-installed and thread tape, in brushed nickel, black or chrome, with three spray modes plus a stream. Filters last 2 to 3 months and cost $33 each in NUUD's store, which adds about $132 to $198 a year.

    Black finish

In the box

According to the FAQ, you get one filtered shower head with one filter pre-installed. The installation steps mention thread tape, which the FAQ says is included. Bundles add more heads, not more filters.

Finishes and spray modes

NUUD comes in brushed nickel, black or chrome. It has three spray modes plus a gentle stream, according to the page. One reviewer noted that the grey spray face does not match every finish perfectly, which is a small aesthetic point.

NUUD price and bundles

On 4 October 2026 the NUUD offer page (opens NUUD in a new tab) listed:

PackagePricePer shower headShipping
1 NUUD$89.99 (shown against $99.99)$89.99Free
2 NUUD (second half price)$149.99$75.00Free
3 NUUD (third free)$199.98$66.66Free

The checkout button on the page we saw was set to the two-pack, so choose the package you actually want.

NUUD's own store listed the same shower head at $129 one-time, or $99 with a filter subscription, with replacement filters at $33 each (shown against $49).

The real cost: filters

The FAQ says to replace the filter every 2 to 3 months or after about 10,000 gallons. At $33 per filter in NUUD's store, that is:

Replacement intervalFilters per yearYearly cost
Every 3 months4$132
Every 2 months6$198

Over three years, a single shower head costs $89.99 plus roughly $400 to $600 in filters. That is the main cost to plan for, and it is not mentioned on the offer page.

How much water 10,000 gallons is

A typical US shower head flows at up to 2.5 gallons per minute. An eight-minute shower uses roughly 15 to 20 gallons. At that rate, 10,000 gallons is about 500 to 650 showers, or around five to seven months for one person showering daily. NUUD's two to three month guidance is therefore conservative for one person and about right for a busy household, depending on your water quality.

Is it good value?

As a shower head, $89.99 is reasonable for a filtered model in a nice finish with a lifetime warranty. The filter cost is in line with many branded shower filters, though generic KDF cartridges can be cheaper. If you would not keep buying filters, the value drops quickly: an exhausted cartridge does little.

Bundles: who they suit

The two-pack makes sense for a home with two bathrooms, or as a gift. The three-pack suits a larger home or sharing with family. Remember that every extra head means extra filters to buy: three heads on a two-month cycle would need around 18 filters a year.

Who makes it

NUUD sells through its own store and the offer page our link opens. The brand runs a support site and replies to Trustpilot reviews. The page states a lifetime manufacturer warranty, which is generous for a shower head.

Does NUUD work, and what does the evidence say?

NUUD's KDF-55, calcium sulfite and coconut carbon media are commonly used to reduce free chlorine, so it should make water smell less of chlorine, though results depend on temperature, flow and how fresh the cartridge is. We found no NSF/ANSI 177 certification or independent test results. It does not soften hard water, carbon and KDF are less effective against chloramine, and evidence for big skin and hair changes is limited.

Shower filters and chlorine

Shower filters using KDF and calcium sulfite can reduce free chlorine, and some are certified to NSF/ANSI 177, the US standard for shower filters' chlorine reduction. Results depend on water temperature, flow rate and how fresh the cartridge is. We found no published NSF/ANSI 177 certification or independent lab results for NUUD, so its "99%" figure cannot be checked.

Chlorine, hair and skin

Chlorine can dry skin and hair, which is most obvious in swimmers who spend long periods in pools with much higher chlorine levels than tap water. Tap water chlorine is much lower. US drinking water typically carries chlorine at levels set to keep it safe from germs all the way to your tap, well below the levels in pools. Some people with sensitive skin or eczema report feeling better with filtered showers, but good-quality trials are lacking. Dermatologists generally see shower filters as a reasonable thing to try, not a proven treatment.

Hard water and hair

Hard water can leave mineral deposits on hair, making it feel dull or rough, and some studies suggest it may weaken hair slightly. NUUD does not remove those minerals, so it will not fix hard water problems, as its own FAQ admits.

The "early consumer study"

The FAQ cites an "Early Consumer Study" in which 95% reported less hair breakage, 89% reported thicker or fuller hair and 83% reported less scalp buildup after 6 or more weeks. No details are given: how many people, how they were chosen, or whether there was a comparison group. Self-reported surveys of customers who bought a product tend to be positive. Treat these as marketing figures.

What independent testing usually shows

Independent tests of shower filters by consumer publications and labs have found wide variation: some filters remove most free chlorine when new, while others remove little, and performance drops with hot water and as cartridges age. Without published tests, NUUD could be anywhere in that range. That is the main reason we score claim accuracy low despite sensible filter media.

Acne

The page says NUUD "quickly clears up acne". Acne is driven by hormones, oil production, bacteria and inflammation. There is no good evidence that filtering shower water clears it. If your acne is persistent, a dermatologist or GP can offer effective treatments.

Realistic expectations

On chlorinated water, expect less chlorine smell and possibly softer-feeling skin and hair. Do not expect acne to clear, hair to thicken or hard water problems to disappear.

The placebo of a new shower

A new shower head with a different spray pattern can make showers feel softer and more pleasant regardless of filtration. That is a real benefit, but it means the first impressions owners report are not a reliable test of the filter. A fair test is to compare chlorine smell and skin feel after a few weeks, ideally with chlorine test strips.

Are NUUD's claims true?

NUUD's chlorine-reduction claim is plausible, but its bigger numbers are unverified. "Filters out 99% of chlorine, heavy metals and chemicals" has no published test results or certification, and hot water and high flow make 99% removal of everything unlikely. "Clears acne" is not supported, and "89% reported thicker, fuller hair" comes from the company's own survey with no published method.

"Filters out 99% of chlorine, heavy metals, chemicals and more"

Unverified. The media can reduce chlorine and some metals, but no test results or certification are published. Shower conditions (hot water, high flow) make 99% removal of everything unlikely.

"Clears acne and itchy, flaky skin"

Not supported for acne. Some people with chlorine-sensitive skin may feel less itchy; that varies.

"89% reported thicker, fuller hair"

Unverified company survey with no published method.

"Protects hair colour (colours last 3-4 months)"

Plausible in part: chlorine can fade colour, so reducing it may help. The 3 to 4 month figure is not backed by any test we could find.

"Immediate results: feel the difference in your first shower"

Plausible for chlorine smell and the feel of a new spray head. Changes to hair and skin take longer and are subjective.

"Will not reduce water pressure"

Plausible for a fresh filter. Flow commonly drops as a cartridge fills, which NUUD's own FAQ uses as a sign it needs replacing.

"The last showerhead you'll ever need to buy"

True only if the lifetime warranty is honoured. The filters, of course, keep needing replacement.

"Science-backed"

The page calls NUUD "backed by science and proven in studies". The underlying chemistry of KDF, calcium sulfite and carbon is well established. The claims about hair and skin rest on NUUD's own early consumer study, which is not published. "Science-backed" applies to the filter media, not to the beauty results.

"Rated 4.9 stars" and "over 5,000 happy customers"

The page's 4.9 appears to come from its own review widget. On Trustpilot, NUUD had 4.6 from about 30 reviews on 4 October 2026.

Is NUUD better than an inline filter or a vitamin C filter?

NUUD's advantage is a neat, all-in-one design with spray modes and tool-free installation. Inline filters that screw between your shower arm and existing head are cheaper, and some carry NSF/ANSI 177 certification for chlorine reduction. Vitamin C filters neutralise both chlorine and chloramine quickly, so they may suit cities that use chloramine. None of these softens hard water; that needs a water softener.

NUUD vs an inline filter

Inline filters screw between your shower arm and your existing head. They are cheaper and some carry NSF/ANSI 177 certification. NUUD's advantage is a neater, all-in-one look and spray modes.

NUUD vs a vitamin C filter

Vitamin C filters neutralise both chlorine and chloramine quickly, but their cartridges often need replacing more frequently. If your city uses chloramine, they may be the better choice.

NUUD vs a basic shower head

If you do not have strongly chlorinated water, a good-quality ordinary shower head with a pleasant spray may give you most of the experience at a lower cost and with no filters to buy. Many of the "softer shower" impressions come from the spray pattern rather than the filter.

NUUD vs bundled filter subscriptions

NUUD's own store offers the head for $99 with a filter subscription. Over a year, that can work out cheaper than buying the head at $89.99 here and filters separately, depending on the subscription terms. Check how often filters ship and how to cancel before choosing that route.

NUUD vs a water softener

If your problem is limescale, crunchy hair and soap that will not lather, you have hard water. Only a softener (or a clarifying hair routine) addresses that. NUUD will not.

NUUD vs a whole-house filter

A whole-house carbon system treats water at every tap, including showers, baths and the kitchen. It costs far more and usually needs a plumber, but there are no individual cartridges to remember for each shower. For homeowners who want filtered water everywhere, it may be better value over many years. For renters or a single bathroom, a filtered shower head is simpler.

NUUD vs other home products we have reviewed

We have reviewed several home upgrades with similar "easy fix" marketing, including the Mat Mend bath mat, the ICE BOX cooler, the EvaChill cooler and the Aroma Amplifier. More are in our home accessories category.

If you decide on NUUD, today's NUUD bundles (opens NUUD in a new tab) were cheaper per head than NUUD's own one-time store price when we checked.

Is NUUD legit, and what should you check before buying?

NUUD is a real, newer brand with a lifetime warranty and a Trustpilot score of 4.6, though from only about 30 reviews. Before buying, check your water report for chlorine or chloramine and hardness, budget $132 to $198 a year for filters, and check your thread size if you live outside North America. If hard water scale is your main problem, a softener or clarifying shampoo will help more.

Filters are an ongoing cost

The FAQ says filters last 2 to 3 months, and NUUD's store sold them at $33 each.

What to do: budget about $132 to $198 a year for filters, set a reminder to replace them, and check whether the store's filter subscription suits you.

It will not soften hard water

What to do: check your water report for hardness. If scale is your main issue, consider a softener or a clarifying shampoo instead.

Chloramine

What to do: check your water report. If your city uses chloramine, consider a vitamin C filter or expect a smaller effect from NUUD.

Expectations about hair and skin

Hair and skin are affected by many things: genetics, hormones, products, heat styling, diet, stress and climate. Water is one factor among many.

What to do: change one thing at a time. If you fit NUUD, keep your hair and skin products the same for a month so you can judge the shower head fairly.

Fit outside North America

The FAQ says it fits standard shower arms in North America.

What to do: if you live elsewhere, check your shower arm thread size or ask support before ordering.

Health claims

What to do: treat claims about acne, eczema and hair loss as unproven. See a doctor or dermatologist for skin or hair conditions that persist.

Gifts and bundles

Bundles are tempting at a lower price per head, but each head brings its own filter costs.

What to do: only buy extra heads for bathrooms you will actually fit them in, and tell anyone you give one to about the filter cost.

Low-flow and older plumbing

Older homes sometimes have low water pressure. Adding any filter adds a little resistance.

What to do: if your pressure is already weak, try the stream or a narrower spray mode, and replace filters on time. If flow stays poor, the head may not suit your plumbing.

Returns and warranty

The page shows a lifetime manufacturer warranty but does not spell out the return window in the text we saw.

What to do: read the returns page before buying, keep your order confirmation and packaging, and ask support whether a used head can be returned.

How to buy NUUD the smart way

  1. Check your water report for chlorine or chloramine and hardness, then go to the NUUD order page (opens NUUD in a new tab).
  2. Pick your finish and the number of heads you need; the checkout we saw was set to two.
  3. Note the total and compare it with NUUD's own store price.
  4. Order at least one spare filter, or set a reminder for 2 to 3 months' time.
  5. Keep your order confirmation for the lifetime warranty.

What do owners say, and how did we score NUUD?

NUUD scores 6.7 out of 10: claim accuracy 0.8, build and durability 1.5, price competitiveness 1.2, usability 1.8 and owner satisfaction 1.4, each out of 2. On Trustpilot it shows 4.6 from about 30 reviews, with 90% five-star and 3% one-star. Reviewers praise softer skin, shinier hair, easy installation, good pressure and thoughtful packaging, but long-term reliability is not yet known.

Trustpilot

On 4 October 2026, NUUD's Trustpilot profile showed 4.6 out of 5 from about 30 reviews, with 90% five-star and 3% one-star. Reviewers praise softer skin, shinier hair, easy installation, good pressure and thoughtful packaging. The brand replies to negative reviews. Thirty reviews is a small sample, so treat the score as an early signal.

What we would want to know from owners

The most useful owner reviews would say what water the reviewer has (chlorine or chloramine, hard or soft), how long each filter actually lasted, and whether the effect faded as the cartridge aged. Few of the current reviews give that detail, which is common for a newer brand. If you buy one, those are the details worth sharing.

Long-term reliability

Lifetime warranties are only as good as the company honouring them. Shower heads can suffer from limescale, cracked threads or worn spray modes after years of use. With a newer brand and few long-term reviews, we cannot yet say how NUUD holds up over several years.

If you buy one, register your purchase details somewhere safe, photograph the receipt and note the date you installed it. Those three things make any future warranty claim far simpler, whichever brand you choose, and cost you nothing. It is also worth keeping your old shower head in a drawer: if NUUD ever needs to go back for repair or replacement, you can refit it in minutes and still shower normally.

The testimonials on the page

The offer page shows four testimonials describing softer hair and skin, easy installation and good value. They are selected by the seller and describe short periods of use, from a week to a month.

How to use the NUUD Showerhead for the best results

Check your water report first so you know whether you have chlorine or chloramine and how hard your water is. Unscrew the old head, clean the shower arm threads, wrap thread tape clockwise two or three times and screw NUUD on hand-tight, without a wrench. Let water run for a minute before your first shower, and set a reminder to change the filter every 2 to 3 months.

  2. Install carefully. Unscrew the old head, clean the shower arm threads, wrap thread tape clockwise two or three times and screw NUUD on hand-tight.
  3. Run it first. Let water run for a minute before your first shower to flush any loose carbon dust.
  4. Pick a spray mode. Try each mode; a gentler spray is kinder to dry or sensitive skin.
  5. Take cooler showers. Very hot water dries skin and reduces filter contact time; warm is better for both.
  6. Replace filters on time. Every 2 to 3 months, or sooner if the chlorine smell returns or flow drops.
  7. Look after your hair and skin too. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser after showering, and a clarifying shampoo occasionally if you have hard water.

If it leaks

Most leaks at the shower arm are fixed by removing the head, re-wrapping thread tape and re-tightening by hand. Do not overtighten with a wrench, which can crack plastic threads.

Cleaning the outside

Wipe the finish with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners and bleach sprays, which can dull chrome, black and brushed nickel finishes.

If the spray pattern changes

Mineral deposits can block nozzles over time, especially in hard water areas. Rub the soft nozzles with your finger to break off scale, or soak the face in white vinegar for an hour if the instructions allow it.

Changing the filter

Turn off the water, unscrew the head or the cartridge housing as shown in the instructions, swap the cartridge and reassemble. Run water for a minute afterwards.

Checking it is still working

The FAQ suggests looking for the return of chlorine smell or reduced flow. You can also buy cheap chlorine test strips and compare filtered and unfiltered water.

Fill a cup from the kitchen tap and another from the shower, both at the same temperature, and dip a strip in each. If the readings are the same, the filter is exhausted or not doing much with your water.

Moving house

Keep your original shower head and refit it when you move out, taking NUUD with you. That is one of the advantages for renters.

Keeping a filter diary

Write the date on each new filter, or set a phone reminder. Note when the chlorine smell returns. After a couple of cycles, you will know the real life of a filter for your household and water, and can adjust how often you buy them.

What else do people ask about filtered shower heads?

Most questions are about what shower filters actually do. Good ones reduce chlorine, which can make water smell better and feel gentler, but they do not remove hardness minerals, and evidence for big improvements in skin and hair is limited. For most people, shower water is not bad for hair; routine, heat styling and genetics matter more. Trials of filters and softeners for eczema have not shown clear benefits.

Do filtered shower heads really work?

Good ones reduce chlorine, which can make water smell better and feel gentler. They do not remove hardness minerals, and evidence for big improvements in skin and hair is limited.

Is shower water bad for your hair?

For most people, no. Chlorinated or hard water can make hair feel drier or rougher for some, but hair care routine, heat styling and genetics matter much more.

Can a shower filter help eczema?

Some people with eczema feel better with filtered water, but trials of water softeners and filters have not shown clear benefits. Moisturising and medical treatment remain the mainstays.

Is filtered shower water better for colour-treated hair?

Chlorine can contribute to colour fading, so reducing it may help colour last a little longer. Washing less often, using cooler water and colour-safe products usually matter more.

How do I know if my water has chloramine?

Check your water utility's annual report or website, or call them. Chloramine has less smell than chlorine.

Do shower filters remove fluoride?

Most, including those using KDF and carbon, do not remove meaningful amounts of fluoride.

Do shower filters remove lead?

KDF media can reduce some dissolved metals including lead, but shower filters are not certified for lead reduction in the way drinking water filters are. If you are worried about lead, have your water tested and use a certified drinking water filter; lead is a much bigger risk in drinking water than in showers.

How often should I change a shower filter?

Follow the manufacturer's guidance, which for NUUD is every 2 to 3 months, and change it sooner if you notice the chlorine smell returning or flow dropping.

Can I use NUUD with a handheld shower?

NUUD is a fixed shower head. If you prefer a handheld shower, look for a handheld filtered model or an inline filter that fits between the hose and your existing handheld head.

Does a shower filter help with dry scalp?

If chlorine irritates your scalp, filtering may help a little. Dandruff and dry scalp have many other causes, including yeast, products and weather; a medicated shampoo or a doctor's advice is usually more effective.

Is NUUD legit?

Yes, it is a real product from a brand with its own store, support site and Trustpilot profile. Its beauty claims are overstated, but the shower head and filter are genuine.

Is NUUD worth it?

If you have chlorinated water, notice a chlorine smell and will keep buying filters, it is a reasonable, attractive choice at the offer price. If you have hard water, chloramine or no chlorine at all, look elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NUUD Showerhead?

It is a filtered shower head with a replaceable cartridge containing KDF-55, calcium sulfite and coconut carbon. It has three spray modes plus a stream mode and comes in chrome, black or brushed nickel. Filters need replacing every 2 to 3 months.

How much does NUUD cost?

On 4 October 2026 the offer page our link opens listed one NUUD at $89.99, two for $149.99 and three for $199.98, all with free shipping. NUUD's own store listed it at $129 one-time or $99 with a filter subscription, and replacement filters at $33.

Does NUUD remove chlorine?

Its filter media are commonly used to reduce chlorine. We found no published test results or NSF/ANSI 177 certification for NUUD, so we cannot confirm the 99% figure, especially with hot water and high flow. Your water report shows whether your city uses chlorine or chloramine.

Does NUUD soften hard water?

No. NUUD's own FAQ says it does not remove calcium and magnesium, the minerals that make water hard. If scale and dull hair from hard water are your main concern, a water softener or a clarifying shampoo will help more. Check your water report for hardness first.

Will NUUD clear my acne?

There is no good evidence that shower filters clear acne. Acne has many causes; see a dermatologist if it persists. Some people with chlorine-sensitive skin feel less itchy with filtered water, but that varies from person to person.

How often do I replace the filter?

Every 2 to 3 months or about 10,000 gallons, according to the FAQ. Replacement filters cost $33 in NUUD's store on 4 October 2026. That adds about $132 to $198 a year, so set a reminder and budget for filters.

Will it reduce water pressure?

The FAQ says it does not. Any filter adds some resistance, and flow can drop as a cartridge clogs, which is one sign it needs replacing. If pressure drops noticeably, replace the filter and make sure the shower arm threads are clean.

Does it fit my shower?

The FAQ says it fits all standard shower arms in North America. Outside North America, check your thread size before buying. Install it hand-tight with the included thread tape, and avoid using a wrench, which can crack plastic threads.
