Smosquito Review: A $49 Rechargeable Bug Zapper That Promises Mosquitoes Will Pick It Over You
A portable lantern with a UV light and an electric grid. Zappers do kill insects, but research finds very few are mosquitoes, and people stay far more attractive to them than a lamp.
By Alex Carter, Senior Tech Reviewer at Top10Gadgets
Updated 10 min readHow we test
Quick answer
No if mosquito bites are the problem. Smosquito is a rechargeable lantern with a purple UV light and an electric grid, and like any bug zapper it will kill insects drawn to UV, mostly moths and flies.

Our verdict
No if mosquito bites are the problem. Smosquito is a rechargeable lantern with a purple UV light and an electric grid, and like any bug zapper it will kill insects drawn to UV, mostly moths and flies. But its central promise, that mosquitoes will target the lamp instead of people, is not supported: a study summarised by a mosquito control district found over 99.75% of zapped insects were not mosquitoes. Repellents and screens do far more. Smosquito scores 3.1 out of 10, held back by its main claim.
The short version
- What it is: a portable UV bug zapper lantern with a rechargeable battery.
- Price: $49 for one on 6 October 2026, with a five-pack for $135 flagged as the best seller.
- Best trait: a silent lantern that zaps moths and flies.
- Biggest drawback: catches few mosquitoes, despite the promise.
- Our score: 3.1 out of 10.
Pros & cons
Bug zappers have a narrow use. The pros reflect what they do kill. The cons are about mosquitoes, collateral catches and value.
What we like
- Kills flying insects drawn to UV light, such as moths and some flies
- Silent, with no fan, per the offer page
- Rechargeable and portable, with a hanging strap
- Doubles as a dim night light
- The seller names a registered company with an address, email and phone number
What we don't
- 'Mosquitoes will target the lamp instead of people' is not supported; a district study summary found over 99.75% of zapped insects were not mosquitoes
- Mosquitoes find people mainly by breath and body heat, which a UV lamp cannot match
- The 360° lamp upgrade and longer battery are paid add-ons
- Kills harmless and useful insects too
- Very similar to the Moskitron LED and Mosquitron lamps sold through this checkout
- Return postage to an overseas seller is yours to pay

How it works
Smosquito is a small lantern with a UV LED inside a metal grid, behind a plastic cage. Insects drawn to UV fly in, touch the charged grid and are killed, dropping into the base. It runs on a rechargeable battery and has a strap for hanging. A night light mode uses the glow without the grid.

Charge it
Step 1: Charge the lamp by USB until the indicator shows full.
Switch on the UV light
Step 2: Turn it on in a dark area; the purple UV light attracts insects that respond to UV.
Insects touch the grid
Step 3: Insects that fly into the cage touch a charged metal grid and are killed, falling into the base for emptying.
The page title calls it an "effective mosquito zapper", "UV mosquito zapper", "portable mosquito terminator", "quality mosquito killer" and "effective mosquito killer lamp". The six bullets promise that "mosquito will target the lamp instead of people", a "powerful luring system with UV lamp", a high voltage net, silent operation, indoor and outdoor use, and a rechargeable battery.
What the page leaves out
There is no coverage area, grid voltage, run time, water rating or safety certification.
A familiar design
Smosquito is a close cousin of the Moskitron LED and Mosquitron lamps on this checkout.
Who it's for
Smosquito suits people bothered by moths and small flies around lights, and campers who want a dim lantern that zaps some insects. It is not for preventing mosquito bites or disease. Our PestOFF Pro review covers a plug-in pest repeller from the same checkout.
- People bothered by moths and small flies around lights
- Campers who want a dim lantern that also zaps some insects
- Anyone who accepts it will catch few mosquitoes
Moth and fly control
Porches and sheds where moths gather around lights.
Campers
A dim lantern that also zaps light-loving insects.
Who should skip it
Skip Smosquito if you rely on it to prevent mosquito bites or mosquito-borne illness, if you want to protect moths and other useful insects, or if you already own a similar zapper.
- Anyone relying on it to prevent mosquito bites or mosquito-borne illness
- Gardeners who want to protect moths and other useful insects
- People who already own a similar zapper lamp
Will mosquitoes really target Smosquito instead of you?
No good evidence says so. Mosquitoes home in on people using carbon dioxide from breath, body heat and skin odours. UV light mainly attracts moths, beetles and flies. A study summarised by the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District found over 99.75% of insects killed by zappers were not mosquitoes.
What mosquito control experts say
The district's article on bug zappers summarises the University of Delaware study and notes that mosquito control bodies do not recommend zappers for mosquitoes.
What this means for you: use repellents and screens for bites, not a zapper.
Collateral catches
Zappers kill many harmless or beneficial insects, including moths that feed birds and pollinate plants.
"Completely silent"
No fan means quiet running, but you will hear the snap of insects hitting the grid.
Disease risk
Where mosquito-borne diseases occur, follow public health advice on repellents and protection.

Is Smosquito better than repellent, a fan or other zappers?
No. EPA-registered repellents and fans prevent bites far better, and other zapper lamps work the same way. Window screens and removing standing water reduce mosquitoes around the home.
| Option | Prevents bites | Kills mosquitoes | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smosquito | No evidence | Few | $49 |
| EPA-registered repellent | Yes | No | Low |
| Fan on a patio | Helps | No | Low |
| Screens and removing standing water | Yes | Reduces breeding | Low |
Smosquito vs repellent
The EPA's repellent finder lists registered products with active ingredients such as DEET and picaridin. That is where the alternative wins.

Is Smosquito legit, and what should you check before buying?
Smosquito is a real product from a named seller, and a lamp should arrive if you order. Before buying, be clear it will not stop mosquito bites, ask about safety certification, switch from the five-pack and note the card statement name.
Ask about safety
What to do: email support@g63com.com and ask for the grid voltage, safety certification, run time and water rating. Keep the reply.
Check the selected bundle
The five-pack for $135 is flagged as the best seller in the page code. What to do: change the order to one lamp.
Card statement name and memberships
The charge appears as Matrixfze. Pages on this checkout have also carried text for a "Gadget Discount Club" membership that is free for 30 days and then billed. What to do: read every checkbox and post-payment page.

How did we score Smosquito?
Smosquito scores 3.1 out of 10: claim accuracy 0.3, build durability 0.8, price competitiveness 0.5, usability 1.1 and owner satisfaction 0.4, each out of 2. It works as a small zapper for UV-attracted insects. The score falls on the "mosquitoes target the lamp instead of people" claim, evidence that zappers catch few mosquitoes, collateral catches, paid add-ons and close duplicates on the same checkout.
How the score breaks down
We use the five criteria on our how we test page, each out of 2.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Claim accuracy | 0.3 / 2 | Main mosquito claim unsupported |

| Usability | 1.1 / 2 | Charge and switch on |
| Owner satisfaction | 0.4 / 2 | No independent ratings for this listing |
| Total | 3.1 / 10 |
What owners say
We found no Trustpilot profile for the gadgetxaura.com store and no retailer reviews for Smosquito by that name. Owners of similar rechargeable zapper lanterns report catching moths and gnats but still getting bitten, short battery life and trays that need regular emptying.
What we did, and did not, do
Nobody on our team has used Smosquito. We read the offer page our link opens and its page code on 6 October 2026, along with mosquito control district guidance, the EPA repellent finder and the pages that rank for Smosquito. The refund and returns terms are as we recorded them from the site's terms page on 4 October 2026.
How to use Smosquito sensibly
Place it away from where people sit, in a dark spot, so it does not draw insects towards you, and use repellent and screens for mosquito protection. Empty the tray regularly, switch it off before cleaning, and keep it away from children and pets.
- Away from seating. Do not lure insects to you.
- Dark location. UV works best without competing light.
- Repellent for bites. EPA-registered products.
- Screens and fans. Keep mosquitoes off.
- Empty the tray. Switch off first.
- Out of reach. Children and pets.
- Charge before trips. For camping.
Around the home
Tip out standing water in pots, gutters and toys weekly to reduce breeding.
Cleaning
Use the brush provided, if any, with the lamp off and unplugged.

What else do people ask about bug zappers?
Most questions are about bedrooms, wasps and noise. Zappers in bedrooms disturb sleep, they rarely affect wasps, and they snap when insects hit the grid. Browse our household gadget reviews for more.
Can I use it in the bedroom?
The light and zapping noise may disturb sleep. A net or screens work better.
Does it kill wasps?
Rarely. Wasps are not strongly drawn to UV lamps.
Is it noisy?
Silent, apart from the snap of insects on the grid.
Can it get wet?
The page gives no water rating. Keep it sheltered.
Frequently asked questions
Does Smosquito kill mosquitoes?
Some, but few. The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, summarising a University of Delaware study, reports that over 99.75% of insects killed by bug zappers were not mosquitoes. UV light mainly attracts moths, beetles and flies.
Will mosquitoes go to the lamp instead of me?
Unlikely. Mosquitoes find people mainly by the carbon dioxide we breathe out, body heat and skin odours. A UV lamp offers none of those, so you remain the more attractive target.
How much does Smosquito cost?
On 6 October 2026, the offer page listed one Smosquito for $49, two for $69, three (two plus one free) for $98, four for $123 and five (three plus two free) for $135, with the five-pack flagged as the best seller. A 360° lamp cost $4, an endurance battery $7 and a 3-year warranty $9.
What works better against mosquito bites?
EPA-registered repellents such as those with DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus, window screens, fans, covering up at dusk and removing standing water around the home.
Is it safe around children and pets?
The grid sits behind a cage, but it is charged. Keep it out of reach of small children and pets, and switch it off before emptying or cleaning.
Is Smosquito the same as Moskitron LED?
They are separate listings, but both are UV zapper lanterns sold through this checkout with similar claims. Our Moskitron LED and Mosquitron reviews cover them.
Is Smosquito legit?
It is a real product sold by G Com Pte Ltd, which lists a Singapore address, email and phone number. The concerns are mosquito claims the evidence does not support, add-ons, killing useful insects and return postage at your cost.
